Final Renders

Work on this project is now finished. It has allowed me to learn a lot, and helped me rethink what I am doing for my main projects. See here for more info.
Large Render Tests

Tests of rendering the Maggot in its current state, with 4k maps (final will be 8k), AO, Final Gathering, etc all switched on. Even though the images are rather small compared to the final image settings I will use, rendering took a long time. As the model will be far more detailed by that point, [...]
Displacement Errors

Interesting displacement map errors. They occurred because I had scaled the model down to be 2cm long (it was about the size of a bus when I imported from Blender/ZBrush). A simple fix though, all I had to do was drop the Alpha Gain and offset by an according scale factor.
Mouth Piece Render Tests in Blender
A quick test of rendering in Blender with the following settings:
5063852 Faces
2 Seperate SSS Shaders with Procedural Bump Maps (really basic just slapped on there for the test)
1 Sun Light – Raytraced
Size: 1920 x 1080
Render Time: 4 mins 56.60 seconds
Same as before but with Simple Ambient Occlusion
Render Time: 5 mins 33 seconds
Final Test
Shaders have been [...]
Test Sculpt Results – Mouth Piece

Having completed all modelling and UV layout for the model (body, lips, inner cheeks, gums, top palettes, uvula, throat, tongue, tongue base and teeth) I proceeded to make a quick test sculpt. The resulting experience is closer to what I had in mind for the animation. However, the test has shown that the seam on [...]
Mouth Piece – Modelling WIPs 02

Having reached this stage I have realised that I do not like the mouth piece design. It will not allow me the range of movement and expression I require. I like how the teeth have turned out. As this will be a model requiring a vast amount of deformation, I have decided to move toward [...]

To explore in depth on a smaller project the technical skills required and complexities to be faced on the Msc Project.
